Valentine’s Day is upon us. THE WEDDING DATE is
getting a head start, before HITCH (with Will Smith)
and BRIDE AND PREJUDICE hit theaters next week. It may
prove to be a good move. Kat Ellis (Messing) is a single
career woman living in New York, recently dumped by
her fiancé after a seven-year relationship. All
hopes were on her to get hitched, so she feels like
a big disappointment. The bad news is her younger sister
Amy (Adams) is now getting married in London. The worse
news is her ex-fiancé Jeffrey (Sheffield) is
the best man. Desperate to appear normal and happily
involved (to irk Jeffrey), Kat tracks down a sought-after
escort, Nick Mercer (Mulroney), offers him a first class
plane ticket, and pays him $6000 out of her 401(k) to
pose as her new beau for the weekend.

Review By Marc Savlov :
Inexplicable Fantasy Romances for the Harried
Modern Gal 101 is a more fitting title for this shameless
mediocrity, although you'd likely lose no points for
comparing it to kissing cousin Pretty Woman, which operated
in the same fantastical universe where prostitutes and
gigolos arrive without medical documentation but baring
blazingly white choppers and butts to die for. Where
is this miraculous parallel universe, anyway, and why
hasn't Stan Lee capitalized on it yet? Will & Grace's
Messing plays Kat Ellis, who, in the film's exceedingly
quick set-up, scours the NYC positions-wanted advertisements
for a male escort to accompany her to her sister's wedding
in England, with the aim of making her ex-boyfriend
jealous enough to take her back. More..

There's something really wrong with The Wedding Date,
but it's hard to say whether it's the execrable script
or the putrid filmmaking. Debra Messing stars as Kat,
a bright young thing living in New York. Her stepsister
is getting married in London, England, and Kat needs
a date for the event. The best man, alas, is the guy
who dumped Kat instead of marrying her a few years back.
Still single, Kat doesn't want to go solo to the wedding.
She hires a male escort she hopes will impress her family
and her ex-fiance. Much is made of how much this escort
costs.
