"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" is supposed to be a
movie about marriage. The Smiths see a marriage guidance
counselor or therapist. They aren't having sex. They
don't talk to each other much. At one point, John Smith
seems to think Jane Smith is cheating on him. Marriage:
that's the not-so-subtle theme of "Mr. & Mrs.
Smith." It sets things up so that moviegoing couples,
especially heterosexual ones, can fantasize about trying
to kill each other and then having make-up sex. You
see, John Smith (Brad Pitt) and Jane Smith (Angelina
Jolie) are actually assassins--working for two different,
competing firms. Mysteriously, both firms send the assassins
to kill the same target: an FBI witness..

MR & MRS SMITH, a film about a married
couple, surely is not an original title. There was one
in 1941, then another in 1996 with Scott Bakula which
involved two spies that posed as a married couple. This
time around, Mr. Pitt and Ms. Jolie, two of the hottest
stars in the world, team up to play assassins who are
