I Heart Huckabees |
Drifting
corporate sad sack Albert Markovski (Schwartzman)
hires "existential detectives" Bernard
and Vivian Jaffe (Hoffman and Tomlin) to help
align his life. Focusing on his problems with
Brad Stand (Law), Albert's fast-rising colleague
at a chain of retail superstores, the Jaffes'
exploits cause a chain reaction which, while beneficial
to Albert, draw them into a battle with their
nemesis, the French radical Caterine Vauban (Huppert). |

Reviews :
Although I have only seen two of David O. Russell's
films, the Kuwait gold-heist film "Three Kings"
and the hilarious "Flirting With Disaster"
(the other, unseen by me, is his breakout 1994 film
"Spanking The Monkey"), I am a fan of the
filmmaker. Both "Kings" and "Disaster"
are from a director who has worked as hard as he could
to provide the viewer with his vision, uncompromised.
I have heard the rumored stories about his troubles
with Warner on "Three Kings" and some say
he is difficult to work with, but you know what? The
guy makes great film, and that is what matters in the

I went to see "I Heart Huckabees"
at the Toronto Film Festival. It was on the screen,
and I was in my chair, and nothing was happening between
us. There was clearly a movie being shown, but what
was its purpose and why were the characters so inexplicable?
I found the pressure point that is said by the master
Wudang Weng Shun Kuen to increase mental alertness.
