"Christmas with the Kranks" is about a family
who decides to forgo all yuletide festivities one year.
Well, you'd skip Christmas, too, if all you had to watch
were "Surviving Christmas," "The Polar
Express" and "Christmas with the Kranks."
Movies like this make me want to skip everything, including
the remainder of my natural life. more..

Tim Allen needs to stop making Christmas movies.
Though it appeared that the Santa Clause franchise had
run its course, and even that the worst of this year's
seasonal movie dregs were already over (with Ben Affleck's
Surviving Christmas mercifully, almost immediately disappeared),
Allen has come charging into the fray with the frenetic,
ugly, and utterly depressing Christmas with the Kranks.

For fans of taste and restraint, Christmas grows a little
more dreadful each year. Disappointed with Thanksgiving's
inability to adequately move product, retailers have
eliminated any downtime between Halloween and the holiday
season. Escaping to the movies hardly helps when each
year adds to the ever-multiplying mass of seasonal fare
trumpeting the same nebulous, tastefully secular, usually
pratfall-inducing cosmic force called the Christmas
Spirit. It makes it that much easier to appreciate the
occasional blast of acid like last year's Bad Santa,
and all the harder not to pelt the screen with rotten
fruit when confronted with a film like Christmas With
The Kranks.
