Back on screen together after many years Amitabh Bachchan and Sharmila Tagore come together for some fantastic on-screen chemistry. The story revolves around this elderly couple who take on the legal system in order to bring justice for the killing of their only son. With the first half of the movie we are given a happy, light hearted view of the world of Vidyadhar Patwardhan (Amitabh Bachcan) and wife Sumitra (Sharmila Tagore). We are then walked though their lives by John Abraham who plays their only son and as the narrator in the movie. Their lives are filled with humour, fun and laughter when son Amar (John Abraham) arrives from London with this British Girlfriend Jenny (Anusha Bandekar) they whole heartedly welcome them and are married in the temple the very next day.

When Amar witnesses a crime, he intervenes and is murdered in the process. The Patwardhans world is turned upside down. They must now seek justice and clear their sons name after he is labelled as a drug peddler. The struggle brings the ageing couple together through love, trust and support from the early morning walk sequences which shows Bachchan with his friends, the second half is a stark contrast and realistically speaking shows how in a matter of moments how your life and circumstances can change.

The director Mahesh Manjrekar is successful in portraying the pain and anguish on screen, but does not go over the top and instead concentrates on the actual storyline.

Sanjay Dutt is in a special appearance you wonder why he has such a small role, but none the less it is fine tuned and blends right in. Alongside Sachin Khedekar who plays a cop caught between the truth of morality or power play.
The script tended to be slightly weak in some places but this hardly too apparent as you are focused on the acting of the two main protagonists.
Bachchan is definitely amazing in the manner of expressing different kinds of emotions that are needed. Sharmila Tagore is so naturally beautiful that without any make-up she is radiant on screen. Alongside her acting which is so natural it is apparent that she is not even trying hard to impress- she simply doesn’t need to!
John Abraham also shows that he is maturing as an actor and is stepping back from the cool dude roles.

This is a sad movie with a sensitive approach to the grief stricken parents, just don’t expect any ‘eye- candy’ or any item numbers.
