Get
ready for the maddest ride of your life! Produced by
Ramesh Sippy ('Bluff master' fame), 'Taxi No.9211' is
all set to hit your screens with Nana Patekar alongside
hottest Bollywood star John Abraham! It's about,
Two Guys, Two lives, Two stories, nothing in common
the Two men have a different take on life, they come
from different social classes, different backgrounds
yet how can a stranger turn out to be one of the most
important person you will ever meet in your life? Not
your typical Bollywood 'Masala' flick which is good,
because this one has the laughs, the lines and a storyline
to keep you watching.
Ragu Shastri ( Nana Patekar) to his wife (Sonali Kulkarni)
is an insurance salesman, but in reality he is a short
tempered cynical taxi driver. Who in the last fifteen
years has changed jobs 23 times!Ragu needs Rs 30,000
and he needs it fast, he has to pay his son's school
fees, his boss the taxi owner and the grocery guy!Ragu's
life is a mess that is until Jai Mittal (John Abraham)
gets into his cab!Jai Mittal is the son of an industrialist
which unfortunately is all set to loose his Dad's inheritance,
even though he lives his life to the full with his women,
drinking and partying lifestyle. But just one day is
set to change all of that, Jai needs to appear in court
or he loses the chance of being the sole beneficiary
of the Rs 300 Crore inheritance.
The two meet by a chance of fate, and what then begins
is a series of incidents that are set to change both
their lives forever. Ragu has something of Jai's (which
is the key to the locker - which holds Jai's father's
will in it. ) Ragu with his arrogant self is in no mood
to return it either!Get ready then for a deadly chase
of cat and mouse, as one or the other is set to outwit
and out do each other. They will stop at nothing or
no one just to get what they want, by any means necessary.
If you look closely the actual idea for the movie is
loosely based on Hollywood movie 'Changing Lanes' which
stars Samuel L.
Jackson and Ben Affleck, but by any other means this
movie is quite original for Bollywood for the quirky
real life performances and watch out for some of the
hand held camera shots- truly fantastic!Full marks to
Nana Patekar for a superb performance again, for a man
who does not smile once throughout, he truly makes you
laugh with his one sided sarcastic comments! Yet two
true moments that show his depth as an actor are present
especially when he sees his son at school and when he
breaks down while cutting his birthday cake, truly moving
scenes which reflect just how much he has put into his
role.
John Abraham who is cast alongside Nana works well with
him, especially as he is in his spoilt brat mode. Although
a heavyweight actor such as Nana could have easily eclipsed
John in his role, John manages to hold his own quite
well and is getting better with every movie.Sameera
Reddy is just about average, nothing too impressive
and is quite wooden at times, yet Sonali Kularni as
the Maharashtrian housewife totally overshadows her
and is fantastic in her confrontations with her husband.
Sanjay Dutt is used a voice over in the beginning and
he truly sets the tone of the movie, Priyanka Chopra's
blink and you miss it special appearance is weak.
With a soundtrack to match the movie, everything blends
in quite nicely, no over the top singing and dancing
and really it wouldn't fit in- but do look out for the
music video at the end 'Meter Down' which is what 'Right
Here Right Now' was to 'Bluff master' definitely worth
hanging around for.
On the whole 'Taxi 9211' is something new, refreshing
and will definitely give you an insight into just how
the 'real' Mumbai is- the gritty urban side to life
is shown well here. It will truly open your eyes as
will the true moral to this actual story will. It just
goes to show how one simple chance of fate can change
your life, your mind and all your values.Definitely
worth watching.
