To
say that the car is the hero of the film would be an
understatement! But I guess the makers did not have
much choice with a lead pair that is fresh and with
zero market value, and a seasoned actor like Ajay Devgan
only doing a brief appearance. So our wonder car fights
and emotes exactly the way we do. It even changes its
shape, drives any which way, becomes a motorboat and
goes underwater, falls apart and pulls itself back together,
and is never damaged. Wow! Doesn't that sound too much
even for a wonder car?
'Taarzan-The Wonder
Car' is a revenge drama but unfortunately instead of
Ajay Devgan, it is the car that does all the bashing
up in the film. So that way, credit is due to the makers
for refusing to tread on the beaten path. But how well
this novel concept goes down with the Indian audience
waits to be seen over the next few days.
Now for the story. Raj
(Vatsal Sheth) is the son of a car designer, Devesh
(Ajay Devgan). Devesh designs a swanky car, much ahead
of its times, and goes to a company to fix a deal. Does
this remind you of Fardeen designing the world's fastest
car in the disaster, 'Om Jai Jagadish'? Anyway, coming
back to our story, the four partners (in crime!) in
the company (Shakti Kapoor, Mukesh Tiwari, Pankaj Dheer,
and Sadashiv Amrapurkar) disagree on certain terms and
abort the deal. But without Devesh's knowledge, they
copy the design of the car and register it in their
name. When Devesh threatens to move the court, they
kill him and throw him into a lake along with his car.
They are aided by a corrupt police officer. Devesh's
family is under the impression that he has died in an
accident.
Cut to his son, Raj,
who works in a garage owned by Kartar Singh (Amrish
Puri). One day Raj finds a car in a junkyard and decides
to transform it into a macho machine. How this wonder
car tackles the villains and eliminates them one by
one forms the crux of the film. However Raj's romantic
track seems forced. Moreover it has nothing new to offer.
As usual this is another stylish film from the director
duo, Abbas-Mustan. Himesh Reshammiya's music is pleasant.
The title track as well as 'O Sajan' and 'Ooh La La'
are good but the former is wrongly placed.
Now the performances.
Ajay Devgan, in a brief appearance, is undoubtedly good.
Vatsal Sheth has screen presence. He dances and emotes
well but he needs to work on his body! Ayesha Takia
does her glamorous bit efficiently. Rajpal Yadav is
a scene-stealer yet again. No wonder he forms an important
feature of almost every film today. The rest of the
cast is okay. Not to mention that the car designed by
famed automobile designer Dilip Chhabria stands out
and could well be the usp of the film. on the whole,
it entertains rather than scares. It also has the makings
of a good kids' film!
