The
one star is for Aishwarya’s look in the film.
That is the only thing that is worth the price of your
ticket. Ash has never looked so hot or gorgeous on screen
before. Don’t know whether it is her director
or stylist who should be credited for that. The film
tries hard to be different and contemporary but has
only ended up leaving the audience confused. You could
call it a sort of love triangle, but after watching
the film you are bound to disagree.
Shaukat (Sanjay Dutt)
is a writer, whose previous novel has come in for a
lot of flak from critics. He coaxes and encourages his
beautiful and sensitive wife, Antra (Aishwarya Rai),
to have an extra-marital affair with her colleague,
Yash (Zayed Khan). One is bound to jump to wild conclusions.
No, no, no, it’s not like he’s just discovered
that he has lost his virility. It’s just that
he is suffering from a writer’s block and needs
fresh ideas. So he needs some real life inputs. And
the wife is a willing party to it. Already sounds very
sleazy! Imagine what the viewer has gone through till
now!
By the way, who is Yash
and where does he spring from suddenly? Antra is teaching
Fashion Designing and Yash is the new photography teacher
in the college. Can you really believe this one. Zayed
is a complete miscast. He does not look like a professor
from any angle. It’s not just his casual clothes
or rucksack look but also the earring in his left ear.
He looks more like a yuppy college kid. His cool ‘Main
Hoon Na’ attitude does not help his characterization
at all. Besides, one would rather see a gun-toting Sanjay
Dutt than a tear-faced guy who cries at the drop of
a hat and sheds real tears. So there go the film’s
male protagonists. So it is left to the leading lady
to deliver. That she does with an elegance and confidence.
The best part about
Ash is her vulnerability that comes across on screen.
So there is a bit of chemistry between Antra and Yash.
He flips for her completely oblivious to the fact that
she is a married woman. He professes his love to her
but Ash shows no romantic inclination towards him until
her husband Shaukat asks her to indulge in a relationship
with him for the sake of his story. He even forbids
her to reveal her marital status to Yash. How stupid
of her to play along! Guilt forces her to reveal it
all in the pre-climax sequence. We don’t have
to tell you how a non-actor like Zayed would have handled
this scene!
It’s a little
late when Shaukat realizes that Antra is fascinated
by Yash. There is an unnecessary twist in his story
that only adds to the confusion. The last half hour
of the film is very confusing and those who’ve
had the patience to sit through it all suddenly find
Shaukat in a sort of rehab center whose interiors remind
you of an asylum. The lovey dovey wife has come to meet
him with tears in her eyes. Just when you thought that
the film has ended and are about to breathe a sigh of
relief, Shaukat asks his wife for a last dance, whatever
that means! And she goes running into his arms. This
is said to be a new beginning for the two.
The only positive things
about the film besides Ash are the aesthetically shot
intimate moments between Sanju and Ash. Sadia Siddiqui
as the domestic help, Rajani, is good fun. Music by
Vishal-Shekhar is okay except for 'Khoya Khoya Thha
Duniya Ki Raahon Mein'. Cinematography is okay. The
fate of the film seems to be sealed- a complete disaster!
Give this one a miss!
