No 1
Movie Review : |
From
the group that is obsessed with anything to do with
No.1 ('Coolie No.1', 'Biwi No.1' and 'Hero No.1') comes
'Shaadi No.1'. The team responsible for this is Vashu
Bhagnani and David Dhawan. So yes you've guessed it
your usual leave your brain at home movie again!Shaadi
No.1 sees Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan, Esha Deol, Soha
Ali Khan, Ayesha Takia and Sharman Joshi giving us the
laughs that are guaranteed with Dhawan's comedies.
Raj (Fardeen Khan) is a guy who loves to go wild and
just paint the town red, meanwhile Bhavana (Ayesha Takia)
is in tune with her spiritual side and is content with
her Pooja path in her prayer room brushing off Raj's
advances of fun and games in the bedroom.
Then we have Veer (Zayed
Khan)
Mr. Cool Dude who loves his rock n' roll and is as laid
back in his ways, whilst Diya (Esha Deol) dreams of
being an actress and starring in her own movie someday.
Finally we have Aryan (Sharman Joshi) who is apparently
everything a woman desires, Sonia (Soha Ali Khan) is
everything a girl wanting a divorce could ask for, and
with this mentality she is good at rejecting Aryan's
advances too.
When the three of them attempt suicide they are unsuccessful
but end up saving the life of a businessman Kothari
(Satish Shah) who in return has a business proposition
for the three guys.
Three guys can help his three daughters Madhuri (Ria
Sen), Dimple (Sophie Chaudhary) and Rekha ( Arti Chhabria).
Kothari wants them to woo his daughters, then leave
them teaching them a lesson that love affairs never
last. So as they head off to France, after the girls,
eventually the three guys end up falling in love for
real!On returning home, however comes 'Kabab Mein Haadi'
Lucky Bhaiya (Sanjay Dutt) who claims to be a distant
relative of the girls. That's when the complications
really begin.
The usual slapstick humour is there,
double entendres and lots of bodies on display as well
as the advantage as having some of the settings in France
as a backdrop, but this is not quite enough.
The second half sees the humour become a bit redundant
and too many clichéd phrases just don't really
grab you. Fardeen Khan looks comfortable in this role,
but he could have done better, not hilarious humour
but it was ok.
Zayed Khan has perfect timing on some of the funny moments
with added facial expressions that help his humour,
Sharman Joshi is sufficient in his role.Esha Deol and
Ayesha Takia justify their roles but Soha Ali Khan's
performance was weak and was lacking any kind of depth
at all. The three other girls Riya, Sophie and Aarti
are good enough in fitting the 'eye candy' bill.
Sanjay's role is wasted and he could have done more,
though through no fault of his own as the scriptwriters
could have developed his character further. In
the past Dhawan has made some crackers, but this one
just isn't hitting the spot, perhaps it is the absence
of his tried and trusted actors, Salman, Govinda and
Akshay that just isn't pulling 'Shaadi No.1' up to scratch. It
does have some funny moments scattered throughout, just
don't expect to be rolling about the floor with this
one though.
