| Qayamat
Movie Review
he most awaited action movie has been released. Director
Harry Baweja's "Qayamat", whose promos stole
the show, is worth talking about.
Set in the modern day, the film is about
a trio of terrorists, Ali Rahmani (Arbaaz Khan), Abbas
Rahmani (Sanjay Kapoor), and Layla (Isha Koppikar).
While Ali and Abbas are brothers (one a brilliant Chemical
Engineer, the other is a Computer Engineer). Layla is
there lover. Yes they "share" her. The trio
smuggle a deadly virus with the help of Gopal (Chunky
Pandey), who is a scientist with the Indian Government's
C.D.C. Lab. They hold Mumbai to ransom with holding
213 hostages at an unused jail, and demand 1500 Crores
Rupees and their safe travel to Pakistan. All this while
Akram Sheikh (Suniel Shetty) plays a CBI officer trying
to catch em from the beginning of the film.
In comes Rachit (Ajay Devgan), ex convict
and how savior of the day. He is keenly supported by
Rahul ( Aashish Chowdhry), another scientist from the
C.D.C Lab. Neha Dhupia makes her debut and plays "Sapna",
while Riya Sen plays "Sheetal".
The first thing that strikes you about
the film is great cinematography. Sanjay F. Gupta has
done a great job. Especially, the titles of the film
are a breed apart. The action is shot brilliantly. Again
Gupta shows his flair with some great slow motion shots,
which translate into a very "Matrix-like"
effect. Ajay Devgan is his usual best, and carries the
film to another level. Rarely does an actor look so
convincing while doing action shots, when he does not
have a muscular body. Neha Dhupia looks stunning, but
her acting suffers and since her dialogues have been
dubbed. Hence, she does come across as a rather poor
actor. Arbaaz Khan is very convincing, while Sanjay
Kapoor has tried his best. Even though, Isha Koppikar
has a poor role, she hasn't tried to make the best of
it. Suniel Shetty with every movie proves that he can
act well. Riya Sen is just there, while debutant Aashish
Chowdhry will definitely go the distance. It's nice
to see newcomers exude so much confidence.
While the story of the film is basic.
Good guys versus the bad, save India from destruction
and all. The "detailing" of the movie is good.
Script writer Suparn Verma should get due credit for
that. He as actually taken the trouble of seeing to
it that the film doesn't have "17th Century scientific
lingo", which a lot of films today have not realizing
which age we live in.
The background score of the film is
excellent. The film is definitely watch able, however,
the songs do slow down the pace of the film. |
