Mohan Movie Review :

Don't
expect too much laughter with this one, just some bland
ordinary comedy the clichéd kind that is forced
rather than genuinely funny. The concept of 'Pyare Mohan'
is relatively new to Hindi cinema, Two guys one Blind
one deaf (Inspired by Hollywood 'See No Evil Hear No
Evil') but the manner in which this subject has been
handled has gone wrong and has not been tactfully dealt
with. Nevertheless the story goes like this. Two best
friends who were originally stunt men on movie sets
are now inseparable. Pyare (Fardeen Khan) is blind while
Mohan (Vivek Oberoi) is deaf. They now both run a gift
shop together, each is the eyes and ears of one another.
However one empty void in their lives is Love. Both
need it both are lacking it.
Cupid strikes and the two happen to meet two sisters
Priya (Amrita Rao) and Preeti (Esha Deol). The two sisters
are stage performers and it is at one of their shows
that the Pyare and Mohan become friends with them. Just
before they are due to leave for Bangkok for a show
Pyare and Mohan confess their love to them. But the
feeling is not mutual however. The boys are shattered
as the girls tell them that because of their disabilities
they just can't deal with them on a romantic level but
see them nothing more than just good friends.
Post interval the girls are on their way to Bangkok
and are seated next to an underworld Don Tony (Boman
Irani) and a priest. In the misconception that the plane
is going to crash, Tony the Don confesses all to the
priest about his wrongdoings but when the plane doesn't
crash Tony kills the priest because he knows all his
secrets.Yet the blame falls on the two girls Priya and
Preeti and both are arrested and thrown in jail with
the murder of the priest.
When the girls need their support from their nearest
and dearest they all turn their backs on them, the only
two that come to their rescue is the two deaf and blind
ones- Pyare and Mohan! They rush over to Bangkok and
then begin their cat and mouse chase of freeing the
girls, ducking and diving Tony along the way.
Although this movie had some kind of potential, don't
expect intelligent humour. Just basic one liners with
some innuendos throw in but nothing special. Vivek Oberoi
has a couple of good comical moments such as when he
is dancing in a marriage, but unknowingly he starts
dancing alongside an ongoing funeral! Also his facial
expressions of lip reading others is quite amusing.
Fardeen Khan is so-so, he plays down some scenes and
at times he comes across as quite bland really.
Esha Deol and Amrita Rao are let downs are just hanging
around looking pretty, as is Boman Irani who plays the
crazy Don in the form of an out of control caricature.
All this from Indra Kumar the man who bought us the
hit 'Masti' a few years ago - 'Pyare Mohan' is really
disappointing.
