Pyaar kyun kiya Movie Review :

Salman
Khan’s back! Doing what he does best – romantic
comedies packed with witty one liners and plenty of
slapstick. David Dhawan’s new comedy is based
on Gene Sak’s 1960’s comedy ‘Cactus
Flower’ in true ‘Biwi No 1’ style!
Salman Khan plays an Orthopaedist examining more than
just his patients! Until one day his amorous ways catch
up with him! In ‘Biwi No1’ Salman was trapped
between Sushmita Sen and Karisma Kapoor, this time round
its with new girl Katrina Kaif who ironically is Salman’s
current girlfriend in real life.
The story revolves around Salman lying about almost
everything with one lie leading to another, Salman is
in a right mess, the marriage, the kids, the boyfriend
the divorce! Dragging each of the characters along with
him one by one.
One of the surprise support roles in this movie is that
of Sohail Khan, his antics and comedy throughout are
so annoying that you actually enjoy his presence. Sohail
provides just that edge that the movie needs and in
a way you can see him taking on Akshay’s role
alongside Salman from’Mujhse Shaadi Korogi.’
The love interest as played by Katrina Kaif is at the
most eye candy her acting is monotonous and she comes
across as quite ‘school girly’ the on-screen
chemistry simply did not flare with Salman and Katrina,
if anything Sushmita and Salman both looked stunning
together.
Sushmita looking the every bit superstar throughout
with her fantastic outfits and dance routines it is
almost her movie and she seems all but in control of
her role and supporting those around her.
The song performed in the rain ‘Lagaa Lagaa Re’
shows us in her true form and you can see just why she
is the superstar she is today. Playing the ditzy nurse,
to the role model daughter in law, to the evil ‘filmy
bahu’ Sushmita gives us her best.
Mid movie you might think that the comedy might dip,
no chance! We get the arrival of Rajpal Yadav who borders
on vulgar innuendo references, as well as Salman’s
best friend as played by the talented Arshad Warsi.
Warsi keeps the satire going throughout with his small
but excellent role and at times you wish that he had
more presence throughout.
The other half of the movie is helped by the arrival
of Salman’s ‘Slap happy’ mother (Bina
Kak) her constant slapping of anyone and everyone gave
the laugh out aloud appeal needed just as the script
showed signs of sagging slightly.
‘Maine pyaar kyun kiya’ doesn’t take
itself seriously and is a light hearted movie made with
excellent art direction and cinematography. Shot in
beautiful locations such as Dubai, it’s bright,
bubbly and modern.
Salman seems to pull off the witty one liners as if
they come to him naturally and it comes across as though,
subtly he is taking a backseat and letting the supporting
actors/actresses take over, which Sushmita quite rightly
does so. Yet you can not knock Salman’s performance
as he conveys his emotions through his eyes with sadness,
deception and immature behaviour.
Amazingly enough the songs and dances do not stray from
the script and are not too overwhelming. Yes, it’s
a ‘no- brainer’ and yes it is a bit over
the top- but that’s just half the fun!
