Movie Review : |
Don't
expect too much from this latest offering from Filmmaker
Raj Kanwar, because it is laced with usual clichés,
typical mushy lines and some heavy doses of melodrama.Yes
,you may have some nice looking actors in the lead roles,
catchy songs all set in the backdrop of Canada but this
movie lacks a serious amount of character depth to establish
the love story going on.We are introduced to the story
of Aditya (Akshay Kumar) and Jia (Katrina Kaif.)Aditya
(Akshay Kumar) is a talented automobile engineer, he
loves his job and is committed to it. Aditya is engaged
to a stunning girl called Sonia ( Bipasha Basu) who
has the career of a fashion designer. Sonia is a forward
thinking woman and for her, it is her career that is
important first everything else later. With this the
two remain on a different level, with different outlooks.
As it happens the two have other commitments with their
jobs and although the wedding date is fixed, Aditya
has to leave for Canada for a car model launch and Sonia
has a fashion show in Paris.Whilst in Canada, Adi bumps
into Jia (Katrina Kaif) merely by chance, at first it
is a lift, then a library then a restaurant! Is this
coincidence or fate? Jia laughs it off as a series of
coincidences, but Adi has convinced himself that it
is destiny that keeps bringing the two of them together.
Jia is a daughter of a business tycoon Yashwardhan Birla
and has always provided his daughter with material things,
but the one thing she craves is genuine love and affection.
Jia is also engaged to Karan Raichand who too is a business
Tycoon. Jia is in Canada wedding shopping all alone.
Jia never really knew what family was all about, and
as Adi's family are in Canada she spends time with them
as they show genuine interest in her . Adi's sister
Simran and Brother In law Robbie welcome her into their
family. Adi and Jia spend more and more time together
and the two become close.
All Jia ever wanted from life was to have someone spend
time with her, and now lacking that time from her father
in her childhood, Jia has the same situation with her
fiancé as chosen by her Father to become her
life partner, he is too preoccupied with work and has
no time for her. Adi is that so much different he showers
her with love and affection and surprises her one after
another filling her life with fun.
With the two in love with each other, they must come
to terms with the fact that in reality they are both
engaged to two different people! How can the two forget
each other and carry on as normal? How will they convey
their feelings to their respective partners when they
truly love someone else?Jia goes back to India to marry
Karan. Aditya also comes back to marry Sonia and is
content with not ever seeing Jia again due to a misunderstanding
that takes place between the two. Aditya is all set
for clean slate, until his wedding that is, just look
who fate has brought in as a guest? The one thing that
most definitely lets this movie down is the pointless
songs popping up every 20 minutes or so, gap fillers
and some will bore you to tears. The other is that Raj
Kanwar has been heavily inspired in this movie by a
number of Hollywood movies. The obvious one being the
Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck movie 'Forces Of Nature'
and really you will cringe and feel that you are watching
this all over again.
Watch out for Anil Kapoor before the interval where
he is told that Akshay is room service and Anil tips
him, Julia Roberts movie 'Notting Hill' anyone? This
movie is stretched with unnecessary dialogue and even
the appearance of Bipasha Basu and Anil Kapoor doesn't
make all that much of a difference, nevertheless Akshay
Kumar is so- so in this role but is looking a bit worn
out as the love struck hero. Katrina Kaif is sufficient
enough for this role as she seems to have matured a
lot from her previous roles. Not so wooden this time
round, Katrina has established her show of emotions
on screen quite well.
Anil Kapoor is ok and does his part with ease, as does
Bipahsa who is present for around 2 songs and some short
scenes which she manages to pull off quite nicely.
One thing that is worth mentioning is the cinematography
in this movie which is excellent in presenting Canada
as a country to an audience. Beautiful shots have been
taken in and the sets and actual style of the movie
are excellent.Overall 'Hum Ko Deewane Kar Gaye' has
nothing new or has anything different to offer just
a gap filler. Average.
