Holiday'
is written by Mahesh Bhatt, but it is the second directorial
of Pooja Bhatt who after her movie 'Paap' has decided
to make this very emotional movie about an ordinary
girl who becomes extraordinary.
This is the acting debut of Onjolee Nair (Muskaan) as
the nerdy looking, simpleton who has lack of self- confidence,
she finds herself eventually through dancing.
You might remember the cult 1980's movie 'Dirty Dancing'
starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray, well 'Holiday'
simply comes across as a Bollywood version of this movie,
well at least the basic plot is.Dr.Daksh (Gulshan Grover)
and his wife (Anahita Uberoi) decide to take a holiday
in Goa with their two daughters Muskaan (Onjolee) and
Samara (Nauheed Cyrusi.)The two sisters are very much
different to each other, whereas Muskaan has been much
the under achiever in life, in introvert she views life
very differently to her sister Samara.
Samara is open minded, she's witty and quick to jump
into relationships like a fool.
As she spends her time in Goa on holiday, Muskaan comes
across a group of salsa dancers who are led by dance
instructor Dino ( Dino Morea) with his dance partner
Alyssa (Kashmira Shah) they dance for the hotel, but
Muskaan learns that Alyssa is pregnant by the hotel's
sleazy owner after having dumped her he moves onto Muskaan's
sister Samara.
Muskaan offers Alyssa the money for an abortion and
also offers to step into her shoes and become her replacement
Salsa dancer alongside Dino.Muskaan a shy girl is now
faced with the challenge of Salsa dancing on stage.
With Dino training her Muskaan slowly begins to discover
herself and eventually falls in love too.
This is Pooja Bhatt's attempt at telling a different
story and her central theme of an under achiever making
it big from nowhere is just what hold your attention
is required in order for the story to progress.
The music is score is melodious and the with the song
sequences the choreography is breath taking in parts.
Watch out for Kashmira Shah track in which Onjolee is
learning to dance, as well as the sequence before the
intermission with Onjolee and Dino.
Not really a movie that will make you jump for joy because
it isn't so fabulous in parts a bit predictable and
at times slightly boring, however the one thing that
will keep you watching the movie is the cinematography
of Goa and its beautiful picturesque scenery all around.
Dino Morea in this movie has shown that he has grown
into actor that can now hold his own, and if you think
that he couldn't dance at all hen think again!Onjolee
Nair, although this is her debut doesn't really fair
too good, she does not have conventional film star looks
but one thing she can do is move! Some of her dance
moves are ace and she looks brilliant on screen. Not
really a big box-office hit as such, perhaps the one
thing that helps this movie is the soundtrack, Pooja
Bhatt should have made the ending a little less predictable
and it would have perhaps faired well. Just about average.
