Mahesh Bhatt's latest offering is the movie 'Gangster' but don't read too much into the title, it may sound like a violent criminal film but in actually fact it is a deep love story which needs to be read between the lines.Although the only biggish name in this movie is Emraan Hashmi, don't let it put you off. In fact if anything the Bhatt's are well known for small budgets and unknown names in some lead roles (such as 'Kalyug') but they go on the strength of the script. Which works again in this movie.Simran (Kangna Ranaut) is all alone living in Seoul , South Korea. Drinking her time away she seeks solace in her whisky bottles. One day she comes across a singer in an Indian restaurant - Aakash (Emraan Hashmi) and the two form a bond and begin a relationship.Aakash wants to know why Simran has such a sad life, and one night she tells all. Through the form of a flashback we learn of Simran's story.

Simran was a dancer in a bar in Mumbai and the girlfriend of Gangster Daya (Shiny Ahuja) . Although Simran used to live with Daya he promised her everything but noth the life she wanted. Always on the run Simran would have to uproot and go with him. One day in Dubai, then Mauritius and finally Seoul. It is all too much for Simran and in vain she tries to have a normal life by adopting a child named Bittu. Yet in a confrontation with the police, Daya and Bittu, Bittu is shot dead.

As a result Daya is now hiding in Mauritius while Simran is drinking her life away in Seoul. On hearing her tragic story, Aakash falls for her even more and vows to give her the life she never had. Meanwhile Daya learns of Simran's new relationship with Aakash and promises to mend his ways and his past life. But it can't be all that straight forward can it?A little twist in the tale tells us that Simran is now pregnant with Aakash's baby! It's Simran's choice Aakash or Daya? She has to make the choice- A life of crime? Or a stress free life in India with Aakash?Emraan Hashmi has done really well and his acting in this movie shows his true firm he is definitely getting better with each movie that he does.

For a debut, Kangna Ranaut does exceptionally well. It is worth noting how she manages to handle her emotive scenes considering her this is her first movie and with hardly any experience in the movie world she is definitely one to watch out for!Shiny Ahuja although he does not have much dialogue, his mere expressions throughout more than make up for it, his presence alone in the movie is superb. This is a fine movie and with an excellent soundtrack to go along with it you can not go wrong. With the movie told in a series of flashbacks it will enthral you and the second half will keep you gripped too. Worth a watch highly recommended.
