Lakhia is the man behind 'Ek Ajnabee' starring none
other than the Big B- Amitabh Bachchan himself. This
is one movie that is worth watching for the sheer charisma
and screen presence of Amitabh alone. Based on the Hollywood
film 'Man on Fire' starring Denzel Washington, we see
Arjun Rampal and Perizaad Zorabian,Vikram Chatwal also
in the support cast.
We meet Suryaveer Singh
as played by Amitabh Bachchan, here is a man who has
seen everything and has watched life pass him by. All
that keeps him company now is his alcohol. In an attempt
to face his demons by chance he comes across an 8 year
old girl, (Ruchi Vadiya is Anamika) which he is asked
to protect.
She changes his life, returning that smile to his face
bringing a meaning and a purpose to everything. Although
she is of rich parents she is not spoilt, although full
of life and laughter she can crack even the hardest
of men even Surya.
Just as his life changes for the better an unexpected
twist takes a turn as she is kidnapped turning Suryaveer's
life upside down again.
When Suryaveer was in the army he was alongside Shekhar,
who now resides in Bangkok. So when a rich industrialist
needs someone to protect his daughter, Shekhar suggests
Suryaveer.Anamika is kidnapped, and her parents are
helpless and Suryaveer vows to avenge her kidnappers
and bring her safely back home.
As the film begins we
become familiar with the character of Suryaveer and
we watch how his relationship with Anamika (Ruchi Vadiya)
develops, her acting is natural and the transition that
she makes is a treat to watch. With the intermission
leading up to the kidnapping, the second half is extremely
tense.
The build up to the climax is a slow but progressive
one that could have possible room for improvement as
Bacchants character interacts with the kidnappers, but
the unexpected twists and surprise ending make it that
little bit more special.
The movie is sure has
slick, stylish cool feel to it. Shot entirely in Bangkok,
Thailand, the action sequences have been co-ordinated
by director Seng (OngBak) so it's not short of a few
moves either! Keeping the pace up alongside Bachchan's
phenomenal acting he really can't be flawed at all,
his silences his depth of character add to that emotional
feel of his character of Suryaveer that is required.
Arjun Rampal is good eye candy and is sufficient in
his role showing comfort in his character he fits in
quite easily.Perizaad Zoorabian is worth a watch as
see compliments Bachchan on screen and is subtle in
her acting and is a pleasure to watch.
With unnecessary songs
kept well away, look out for cameo roles from Abhishek
Bachchan, Lara Dutta and a song on Sanjay Dutt.Ek Ajnabee'
is definitely worth a watch, for the strong performances
and the slick, stylish manner in which this movie is
presented. Don't miss this one!
