 Dubbed
as the 'coolest con flick of the year' ' Ek Khiladi
Ek Haseena' does really make you wonder, just what is
going on?This really is highly influenced by the west,
and is not your typically Bollywood 'Masala' flick as
such. Heavily influenced by James Foley's movie 'Confidence'
with the odd gangster lines thrown in here is the directorial
debut of Suparna Verma.
Starring Fardeen Khan as Arjun Varma, he likes to think
of himself as the 'Sabse Bada Khiladi' (The biggest
Player) but can he really hold the crown for long enough?Along
comes the beautiful Koena Mitra starring as Natasha
Kapoor , who to Arjun is his accomplice. Or is there
more to her than meets the eye? Could it be that 'Haseena'
will play the actual 'Khiladi'? Meet Jahangir Khan (
Feroz Khan) he runs things, The Asian continent is his,
he's cool, slick, smart and has been in the game long
enough to even teach the 'Sabse Bada Khiladi' a thing
or two!Soon their paths cross and they are all put to
the test, yet somewhere along the line everyone is trying
to outwit each other.
Arjun over- confident as ever believes he can take on
this job with his eyes closed, and soon Natasha joins
his gang ( But she has a plan of her own ), also Rohit
( Rohit Roy), Jack (Amin Haji) and Bhatia (Mukul Dev)
are all part of Arjun's gun totting gang. It's all going
on here- Fake passports, fake currency, fake credit
cards they leave no stone unturned in the quest for
their 'perfect' job.
Hold on though, we're missing one guy - The uncrowned
'King of the Underworld' Sikandar (Gulashan Grover)
a living legend that meets up with Arjun…But don't
forget Kaif ( Kay Kay) he is one of Sikandar's main
men but also friends with Arjuns gang, yet Arjun needs
to be extra careful about him. Why? Because he is next
on Kaif's hit list! Sounds confusing? Well it is!Don't
expect this movie to be fast and action packed with
stunts and explosions, this is more on the level of
a thinker's movie, with the constant mind games that
are being played.
Fardeen Khan 'Mr Cool' himself is just that, his dialogue
delivery is still flat as usual which if he expanded
would develop his character further more, put him alongside
Kay Kay and it is plain obvious who is the better actor.
Kay Kay is fantastic and his performance leaves you
craving for more, he really should have had a larger
role in the movie.
Koena Mitra, ok so she has sex appeal, and sex does
sell ( Just check out the lovemaking scene in the shower
with Fardeen and you will know what I mean!) But really
this alone can not assist you in getting into the actual
skin of the character that requires true feeling and
depth, as her character is such a complex one.
Gulshan Grover as usual fits perfectly into the kind
of roles that he does best, and quite rightly so who
are we to argue?Definitely though this seems to be Mr
Feroze Khan's movie with his charisma and charm it's
those piercing eyes of his that says it all! Only he
is the only one that can truly pull off this character
with flamboyance.
'Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena' is racy but chilled at the same
time, it might not hit the right spot all of the time,
but with some of the songs for the music score just
kept in the background it keeps it on the thriller level.
It is different, it is clever and the ending will most
definitely grab you!
