Jo Bhi Kahey Review

New
boy Karan Sharma is launched in this routine love story,
by his father Romesh Sharma who is the Producer, Director
and writer of 'Dil Jo Bhi Kahey.'Everything is thrown
into this movie big star Amitabh Bachchan, beautiful
settings (Mauritius), English Heroine and a love story
all rolled into one. But why not? This is of course
the launching of his son Karan into the Bollywood limelight,
so why stop at anything less? However although all of
the above ingredients could be the makings of a successful
Blockbuster, this movie fails to stir up any kind of
excitement whatsoever.
Jai (Karan Sharma) is in Stockholm, Sweden studying
on a Hotel & Catering course, where he meets Sophie
(Annabelle Wallace), initially hating each other at
first and fighting playfully the two fall in love. Realising
that they can't bear to be apart from each other once,
they only have one thing in mind- Marriage.
Things can not be that easy of course as Sophie's Father
Norman (Malcolm Stoddard) is a headstrong, arrogant
Business man who doesn't approve of their relationship.
With the same going for Jai's mother Sandhya (Revathy)
who is an orthodox, God fearing woman who is set in
her cultural ways and refuses to accept an English woman
as her daughter- in -law.
Jai's Father Shekhar (Amitabh Bachchan) on the other
hand is liberal broad minded person who sees no wrong
in his son's relationship and only wants what is best
for him. With a dramatic change of events, Jai's mother
is taken ill, and is intensive care, Jai calls off his
wedding to Sophie and jilts her at the alter. Sandhya
has her eye on the Doctor who is taking care of her
as played by Bhumika Chawla.
The rest of the movie is whether Jai will enter a loveless
marriage for the sake of his parent's wishes or will
he go back to Sophie, against all odds? Some of the situations
and dialogues are a bit far fetched and you question
as to whether this would really happen in a real life
situation. For his debut Karan Sharma is average, he
seems slightly apprehensive at times, but then he is
paired up against the Big B himself. Some of his delivery
of dialogues is a bit flat and at times you want him
to have that mad passionate rage that the 'Bollywood
Heroes' are known to have.
Annabelle Wallace at first appears the brainless bimbo,
with hardly any convincing acting skills, however as
the film progresses she seems to pull through and portray
a strong independent woman.
Amitabh Bachchan as ever fills the screen and the movie
with his presence, as the chilled out father (Which
makes a change from him being so stressed out and angry
all the time!) The song and dance during the 'Holi'
song is energetic and shows Amitabh having all the limelight
himself looking fantastic through out, he puts the youngsters
to shame!Revathy's role is sufficient enough to at times
have you frustrated and agitated at the fact at how
she over reacts at times with her panic attacks and
fainting episodes, but she does so convincingly and
does seem to calm down towards the end.
Although Bumika Chawla's role is a small one, it does
seem to have an impact on you as she is the one who
pulls the story together and cements the conclusion,
a noticeable performance.Although this could be seen
as a dream launch on Romesh Sharma's part for his son
Karan, the movie lacks depth and impact. The music could
have perhaps saved this - but it did not. Although the
presence of the Big B is apparent it is much needed,
and without him starring, the movie would not have had
any recognition at all.Really this is just plain average.
