Sippy's 'Bluffmaster' is here! Beautifully packaged
and styled, Abhishek in the main role is out for holding
his own in this movie. Certainly a different film, not
only in the manner in which it has been filmed, but
with the many twists and turns throughout.
Without giving too much of the plot away the basic storyline
of 'Bluffmaster' is one of Roy. A professional conman,
Roy (Abhishek Bachchan) is truly a master in his field.
The only thing that is genuine in his life is his love
for Simmi (Priyanka Chopra) or is it really that genuine?
She's so honest, caring and sincere and it hurts Roy
to bring himself to tell her the truth about his lying
and devious ways.
Yet when the past does eventually catch up with him,
she doesn't want a relationship that was based on lies
and leaves him.Along comes Aditya Srivastav aka Dittu
(Ritesh Deshmukh), he too a conman is the opposite of
what Roy really is. As Roy is calm, Dittu is frantic,
as smart as he is Dittu is just plain dumb.
Dittu likes to think that he is truly the best conman
there is, but to Roy well he is just plain embarrassing.
Yet when he constantly hangs around and unable to get
rid of him, Roy takes him under his wing and decides
to teach his new 'student' a thing or two.
Yet as a result Roy is hit with reality and is pushed
into a corner, for someone who could once cheat and
fool almost anyone. What now for Roy?He must confront
his demons and reveal his true self, but does Roy really
have it within himself to do this? One last con needs
to be pulled off on a man called Chandru Parekh (Nana
Patekar), the cunning man who made Dittu's father down
and out and broke after tricking him for all he is worth.
Roy now wants to put his 'student' to the test and see
if everything he has taught him can now be put into
practice.'Bluffmaster' can not strictly be classed
into any one genre as this movie has it all, the cons,
the tricks, the jokes and the lovesick. Abhishek is
fantastic in his lead role and manages to hold his role
well. Portraying a mixture of emotions throughout, he
truly fits the bill of the slick conman.
No one else could really
play the sidekick aside from Ritesh Deshmukh, the man
is mad! Brilliant, he adds that little bit of extra
over the top madness that is needed in his role (Look
out for his dancing in the nightclub!)Nana Patekar in
his villainous tongue in cheek role, handles the second
half extremely well, it is almost as if this is just
what the movie needed to give it that little bit of
extra help. Highly entertaining as the sleazy and slimy
hotelier with excellent dialogue delivery and ultra
cool manner about him.
The supporting cast
of Boman Irani as the Doctor is well crafted out and
it is him that instils the wisdom within the Bluffmaster,
showing him the right path. There are some funny moments
with Boman Irani and he is responsible for a good chunk
of the humour throughout.
One let down was that of Priyanka Chopra, as the love
interest. Although Abhi is completely besotted really
you don't see the point as to why indeed is he going
to so much trouble to get back with her? With a funky,
modern soundtrack including the re-working of the title
track 'Sabse Bada Rupaiya' it adds that touch of Bollywood
Glamour that is needed. Make sure you wait until the
end credits and watch how Farah Khan has put together
this one!'Bluffmaster' might not be the masses cup of
tea, but this movie while watching it is, not quite
what you expect either.
Expect an emotional rollercoaster, with a totally unexpected
ending!
Definitely worth a watch- Even if it is just for Abhishek
doing his thing!
