Antop Hill Movie Review
There is a long queue of Producers. They have been queuing
up for the next thriller/horror script they can lay
their hands on. Raaz started the thriller frenzy, Bhoot
capitalized on it, and ever since that day each and
every Producer is chasing his thriller dream.
Debutant Director, Kushan Nandy was
the first to the advantage of the current frenzy in
Bollywood with the timely release of 88 Antop Hill.
Has he? No, sad but true! This would have been a great
time to release a thriller. With the current frenzy,
the Box Office would have accepted it with open arms.
Pratyush Shelar (Atul Kulkarni), a Banker,
receives a call from his friend one night asking him
to go to 88 Antop Hill as he (his friend) is in trouble.
Pratyush has just been dumped by his wife Antara (Suchitra
Pillai) and he lands up at flat no. 9 at the given address
and his life changes. There he meets high-class escort,
Teesta (Shwetha Menon). What follows is a loosely scripted,
at times senseless murder mystery, and a whodunit. Arvind
Khanvilkar (Rahul Dev) plays a cop who solves the mystery!
The promos of the film were very slick,
in turn very misguiding. 88 Antop Hill is a thriller,
which fails to thrill. A completely senseless script,
with people in the film getting murdered (much like
Friday the 13th part 88!). The newspaper adverts announced,
88 Antop Hill is waiting for you, will you dare to come,
again very misguiding. The end is the most hilarious
end to a thriller in movie history.
Atul Kulkarni has unfortunately been
completely under utilized. For an actor of his caliber,
it is needless to say that the script is an insult to
his talent. Besides Kulkarni, Shwetha Menon plays a
cameo. She has a tres sensual entrance and is the only
reason that the movie is bearable for the first 15 minutes.
Rahul Dev gives a decent performance. Model Gladrags
Mrs. India Jasmine plays Sonali. Though she looks stunning,
her performance is nowhere close.
One can accept silly, senseless storylines.
But what takes the cake here is that the movie has some
exceptionally horrendous sound effects. The movie is
so loud that at one point in time you wish you had cotton
wool in your ears.
