Sanjay Dutt (born July 29, 1959) is a Bollywood megastar.
He is the son of late Bollywood actors Nargis and Sunil
Dutt. He has two younger sisters, and a daughter who
resides in New York. He had two wives; one died of cancer
and the other, Rhea Pillai, he divorced.
Film Career
He made his acting debut in the film Rocky, 1981 the
year that his mother passed away. Though the film
was a hit it did not establish him as a star. He steadly
began to build his career, and he had many hits such
as Saajan, Daag The Fire, Haseena Maan Jayengi and
his breakthrough role Khalnayak. The release of Khalnayak
happened to coincide with Dutt's arrest in connection
with the 1993 Mumbai Bombings. The hype surrounding
the event and his villainous role in the film gave
him a much needed career boost and a filmfare nomination
for best actor.
Dutt retained his macho image after
being relased from jail and built on his steady fan
following. Over the last 5 years, he has matured as
an actor, with action and comedy being his forte.
The 2004 hit Munnabhai M.B.B.S. earned him rave reviews.
His performance as a gangster in "Vaastav"
earned him almost all the top awards that the industry
has to offer, further cementing his place as one of
the best actors in the Indian Film Industry.
He along with friend and director
Sanjay Gupta formed a production company called White
Feather Films. They have produced films such as Kaante
and Musafir.
Personal life
Despite getting into trouble with the law, Dutt has
maintained his huge fan following. His mother died
a few weeks before his first film was to be released,
following which he took up drugs. After attending
a rehabilitation program in the United States, a sober
Dutt learned that his wife had cancer. Her death was
followed by a bitter custody battle between Dutt and
his in-laws over the custody of his only daughter.
It is at this time that he was linked
to the March 12, 1993 bombings of Mumbai. Dutt spent
over a year in jail, during which time, public sympathy
for the ill fated actor reached a crescendo. Dutt
was charged in connection with the bombings that killed
over 200 people, but was exonerated by the Government
and Law enforcement agencies.
His father Sunil Dutt, died in May
2005. Sunil Dutt was the sports minister of India
at the time of his death.

Quotes
(About Munnabhai M.B.B.S.) "It's a kind of satire
on the medical profession, but at the same time, it's
a fun film, though not a slapstick comedy. The jokes
and dialogs aren't written to evoke a forced laughter;
I'd say it's situational. Munnabhai is comical because
of the way he is. But at the core, it's a very emotional
film. It will be a really fantastic film. The script
is amazingly hilarious. It's not an inspired story,
it's original. Munnabhai was one role I couldn't refuse,
as it's in a league of its own. Suddenly, due to one
jhatka in his life, he decides to become a doctor.
So how a bhai enrolls in a medical college and goes
to study medicine is very funny as an idea."
